This type of distribution implies an increase in our costs, but we do not jeopardize our pets’ food. A natural feed with a short shelf life, exposed to poor storage and lengthy transportation may lose many of its properties. We do not risk it. Fatty Acids play a vital role in making cellular processes function properly in mammals. Deficiencies of these are quite common in dogs, since their bodies can not synthesize them and must obtain them directly from their daily diet.
The saturated fat is mostly found in animal sources, while polyunsaturated fats are mainly found in vegetable sources. Saturated fats are in their normal diet and they are the energy providers.
Fats and oils are composed of fatty acids, sometimes referred to as vitamin F. They are found in both animal and vegetable sources. The two types of essential fatty acids (EFAs) essencial for canine health are omega-3 and omega-6. Omega-3 includes alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The omega-6 linoleic acid (LA) and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA).
Omega-3 acids are the most sensitive and are often deficient in cooked, extruded or processed industrial feed. Thus, some owners choose to add Omega-3 supplements to their dog's diet to replace those that were destroyed during the heat treatment. Feed produced at high temperatures or extruded, lose most of the omega 3 and 6 that later, if wished, should be added to the feed.
It is important to give your dog high quality food which provides the majority of the nutrients they need. However sometimes this is not enough, because the nutritional needs of each dog is different, which is why we have been creating nutritional supplements that help meet the specific needs and specific nutritional deficiencies.
Many types of oils are available, but most dogs have better results assimilating those from an animal source, such as fish oil. There are plant sources of omega-3, but some dogs do not have the necessary enzymes in their bodies to assimilate them. If you should choose to add essential fatty acids to your dog’s feed, remember to choose the highest quality available. Although fats and EFAs are important for good health, too much can affect the liver and pancreas. Avoid cooked fats or low quality products.
